More information from Helen -
Reading in the area of personal and spiritual growth is much more in the nature of a companionship. Certain books become more like old friends and we find ourselves re-reading old favourites from time to time. We may be introduced to a new author at a particular time (perhaps a time of pressure and difficulty) and go on to find everything we can that has been written by that author. What a pleasure it is to share a favourite book with a friend to find that they too have obtained help from that book!
Place and Space
Two difficulties that hinder this activity from having a place in our lives are firstly, the pace at which we live, and secondly, the rising costs of books and tapes. Stillpoint can help on both these counts, providing the place, space and encouragement to re-consider one’s priorities, as well as the resources to assist in this process.
In the library there is a wide range of material reflecting the huge expansion in the kind of areas now being addressed by Christian authors and producers of tapes. If there is an issue on which you are working in your life, it is highly likely that there will be some helpful material on the Stillpoint library shelves. We buy many books directly from overseas because local Christian bookshops tend to carry only readily sold stock. Because there aren’t enough buyers, some wonderfully helpful writings never reach the Australian Market.
Journals
A number of journals from different sources are available at the Centre. We have also gathered some interesting journal articles on a wide variety of topics. Articles often cover a lot of ground in just a few pages. These are available on request.
Books for Sale
In the library there is a supply of inexpensive but quality second-hand books for sale. So take time to have a look around next time you call in to the Stillpoint Centre at Toowong. If you live outside Brisbane, ask for some material to be sent to you, stating your area of interest.
Reinstate reading (and/or CD/tape listening) into your personal priorities. Taste and enjoy!
Helen Woolcock.
